Another migraine producer, but very good at unraveling what’s going on in American higher education.

  1. Interesting and I have heard of FIRE and poltically correct speech codes. But, when the author talks about low standards, I keep wondering when the sciences or engineering will be mentioned. I suspect they still have standards from sheer necessity. Either you do it right or the bridge falls down.

  2. JD, in the first two years of the current administration, there was considerable discussion of applying Title IX to math and science courses because the wrong people were passing them. It went away (for now) after the 2010 election–but keep in mind that we had a ruling class composed largely of poly sci majors with law degrees. They have a very hard time grasping the notion that not everything is a matter of opinion, and they’re certainly not going to “privilege” such a thing.

I read the article earlier, but it seemed to add no facts or insight. Also I found the ending a bit depressing. Anyone who imagines a situation so congenial to the ruling class will go away without someone inflicting some pain is delusional. Universities will go back to teaching when it’s that or lay off administrators. We may not be as far from that point as our ruling class imagines, but we’re not there yet.
